Both part time nurses have children, so requested those shifts to work around their lives I guess...so that's what they are contracted to do every week which can be frustrating for the other full timers...but I do understand why they've requested those

Looking at your rota it i does seem like your part-time nurses do more of the early shifts. Obviously you need to plan your nurses round your case load, so if you have 5 nurses can you not have 2 on early, 1 middle, then a middle to late shift and then a late shift nurse. Spreading the early/late shift finishes out evenly so its as fair as possible for everyone.

my old rota was.

8:30 5:30 inpatients

9-6 consultations

9-6 1st ops

10-7 second ops

9-6 large animal

rolling rota was giving for on call which a half day was given the following day.

We have our rvns on a separate rota to the svns, the runs do 8-5 kennels, 8.30-5.30 prep/nurse appointments, 9-6.30 theatre and 1-7 on call.

Don't be hasty, Arlo! After all, vet practices seem to be Random Cat Generators (they always show up!) so why not the forum? :)

hehee at the cat picture!

our current shifts are 7:30-4 kennels, 7:30-2 (no lunch break) 2nd ops, 8-5 ops nurse, 12-8 Late nurse, and if enough staff 10:30-6:30-floater/nurse clinics,

our part time nurses do the exact same shifts each week, one works Monday 12-8, Tuesday 7:30-2 and Friday 7:30-4 and the other nurse works Wednesday 7:30-3:30 and Thursday 8-4 as these are their contracted hrs,

we were thinking of going 8-6 or 9-6, so that there is another nurse around in the evening as at the moment with students at college or nurses off, the most nurses we will have in a day is 4.....so it will be trying to fit shifts to fit the day but to make sure there is enough staff

I'm finding it really hard

this probably wont help too much, but at the places i have worked we have had the following:

7am-3pm, 8:30-4:30, 12-7pm. (at this practice we did not stop for a lunch break and ate when we could)

another place: 8:00-4:30, 9:30-6pm, 11-7:30pm (lunches: 12-1, 1-2, 2-3pm)

current rota for 2 nurses we do 8:00-4:30, 11-7:30. Kennel assistant one day a week does 8:30-5pm

perhaps you could split the day for the rvns and add the others in around that. that way the day is covered.

what rota do you currently use?
