I am currently investigating the Diploma, at either Harper Adams, Myserscough or the RVC, but as far as I can see the RVC course is not accredited? I am not sure whether that really matters?
Has anyone done any of these courses who would be willing

RE: Advanced Veterinary Nurse Diploma-- Has anyone done it?!

Thanks for all of your replies :) I already have a BSc so probably will go for either Harper or Myerscough. I have emailed both so ill wait and see for a response! Myerscough (although the furthest away) calls to me, as they have the most information online about what to expect, and a few more contact weekends, which I think would motivate me!

RE: Advanced Veterinary Nurse Diploma-- Has anyone done it?!

Hello,

I started the dip avn in September and really enjoying it. Once I have completed it I am carrying on the complete the Bsc (hons) degree (which is level 6). I am with Harper Adams, it is mainly done by distance learning, with attendance for induction, exams and lectures if you choose to go to them, but you don't have to - everything is uploaded for you on the learning hub.

I emailed Harper, prior to applying - they were really helpful and that helped me choose them

Good luck in your decision

RE: Advanced Veterinary Nurse Diploma-- Has anyone done it?!

Sounds really interesting, distance learning ideal, I prefer this as just switch of in classes - looking into that when I qualify - don't fancy doing another degree as already have them. I do like a challenge

RE: Advanced Veterinary Nurse Diploma-- Has anyone done it?!

There have been.loads of discussions on this in the past if you do a search xx

RE: Advanced Veterinary Nurse Diploma-- Has anyone done it?!

It's a level 6 qualification whereas the advanced diploma is a level 5.

You have to attend the rvc for an induction week at the start of the course but otherwise it's all online. You do have to attend the rvc for exams though. The online learning is pretty good. It's well structured with work released once a week so it keeps you on track. It is hard work! They recommend allowing 15 hours a week for the diploma which is really difficult when you work full time. I probably allowed much less than that but then more when exams were looming or assignments were due.

The rvc encourage you to do use online forums to discuss things with your peers. It's because they don't want to you feel like you're facing it alone! The forums are really useful and allow you to ask questions to your tutor as well. Much of the learning is self-directed so don't expect to be given lots of material as they want you to research the answers yourself.

In the second year you get to choose which modules you study. You choose 3 from the following-

Emergency and critical care, anaesthesia and analgesia, diagnostic imaging, medical nursing, surgical nursing.

I hope that helps!

RE: Advanced Veterinary Nurse Diploma-- Has anyone done it?!

Thank you for your reply. Do you know what level the graduate diploma is vs the dip avn? Did you have any contact days for material to be taught in person or was it all online?

RE: Advanced Veterinary Nurse Diploma-- Has anyone done it?!

I've just completed the RVC diploma and would highly recommend it.

It's not accredited by the RCVS but as it is a graduate diploma it is actually a higher educational level than the advanced diploma offered elsewhere. This is the main reason I chose the RVC one. I also tried to think long term as I probably won't be nursing forever and a graduate diploma (in any subject) is a recognised high level qualification and so looks good on a cv. I found the course content really interesting and I feel like I've improved my nursing practices because of it.
