I need some advice, Ive been offered a job at a training practice to start in September next year. However im now hearing bad reports about them. I have no idea what to do. This is my dream do I bite the bullet and just go for it?
It wouldn't hurt to send out CV's to other prospective practices or pop into practices to hand in your CV with a personal touch to make you stand out.

Not all practices operate to the same standard but all provide a level of experience. I would contact them however to inquire about a work experience placement on the basis that you would like to get to know them better (and provide an opportunity to scope the place out).

Good luck it will all be worth it in the end xx

RE: Veterinary nurse training new job

I agree, if you can go there for work experience or to shadow the nurses there for a while and see how it is.

I had the opportunity to change to a hospital practice from a small one man band practice and it was the best decision for me. But I made sure I did some shifts there before I considered the job as it was a big leap.

Ask your college as well and see what they can say and if it helps make your decision.

Good luck!

RE: Veterinary nurse training new job

Personally I think you should just go for it. You have 5 years of experience under your belt to start with and as far as im concerned, you get out of training what you put in. It took me 25 years to get a training position and i had no clue what the practice was like so just dove in head first and made my own future. Glad to say that I am now qualified and have the pick of whatever job i want - pretty much thankfully. You will never know, and life is too short to live it with regrets!

Good luck!!

RE: Veterinary nurse training new job

Training places are hard to come by so just remember that when you're making your decision!

RE: Veterinary nurse training new job

[quote user="Jellyfish25"]

Be aware they may not be able to tell you much, because of Data Protection, but best of luck anyway!

RE: Veterinary nurse training new job

The college is the same when I did my ana training and they were great.
Hey, you won't know until you try! :) Seriously though - find out who their college is; what kind of support does the college give in addition to the practice?

RE: Veterinary nurse training new job

That's a good point. Taking a job is a big step, and so much depends on who is saying what. Is it a client complaining about a bill? Former colleagues who hate the boss? Rival practices who want to say bad things about them?

Maybe the reports are warranted, maybe they're not - if they're an approved training practice, they have to achieve certain standards of equipment and caseload. More than that I couldn't possibly say, and I'm not sure it would be fair for anyone else to say either - what are you hearing?

Good luck!
Mark
