I'm Alex and i'm trying to find a college in London that will offer ANA or VCA courses.
I've googled for a while and i didn't find anything. That's why i need your help.
Also, is it true that i have to be employed to be allowed to

RE: Studying in London...But where?!

[quote user="Alex Smith"]

Hi Mark! thanks for your reply! Is it absolutely a must Before is start studying that i should work or volunteer at a vet practice?! Because i have a full time job and a wife to take care of ,so a vet practice employment as part time is out of the question. The wage wouldn't be enough..i live in London and renting.

Do you think that 2 days per week of volunteer work will be enough to allow me to entry?+

And does is need to be done before the courses start or can it be done during the year?!

Thank you so much for your time and i will definitely check the link.

Hi Alex,

The course is a year long course, and requires 600 hours of practical work to complete the course. The 600 hours has to take place during the course, so realistically you're right, it sounds like volunteering isn't really for you, based on your family situation. You need to have the placement or employment to start the course, but then you can start the course any time, if you do the distance learning training. (Learning is online, practical work takes place in the vet practice.)

For guidance on your options, our website is probably a good place to start, and then if you have further questions, please let our admin team know at 01480 422 060 or admin@caw.ac.uk.

Good luck!
Mark

RE: Studying in London...But where?!

Hi Mark! thanks for your reply! CAW (caveat: I work there) offers the VCA via Potters Bar (north London) and via distance learning. You can either be employed or volunteer at a vet practice, although if you want to take advantage of any apprenticeship funding, you'll need to be employed.

http://www.caw.ac.uk/courses/veterinary-care/level-2-diploma-for-veterinary-care-assistants-vca-course/ has more information; there's also some good articles on there about a day in the life of a vet care assistant, and other careers in animals if you're curious about other options.

And of course, to quote the BBC, other providers are of course available!

Good luck!
Mark
