just wondering how other people keep clients up to date on costs of their animals that are hospitilised. We are good at keeping them up to date on what's happening with regards to treatment but it's difficult to be informative and compassionate

RE: How to keep client informed on costs of inpatient care?

I used to ask the vets to note when they had given a bill update. Our system gave you the bill at the time you write the note. To make it easy to find I asked the, to put %%% before the note so everyone could see if any notes were made about insurance claims or payment plans. Made receptions life easier too. And clients then couldn't say they hadn't been told.

RE: How to keep client informed on costs of inpatient care?

In my practice its generally the vets that give the patient updates, but as a general rule items are added to the bill as they happen and the vet in charge is aware of the estimate given to the O.

As the bill approaches the estimated amount the clinician will discuss this with the O, and will address unexpected costs as and when they are required.

RE: How to keep client informed on costs of inpatient care?

also I would advise billing daily. don't leave it till the final day of the patients stay. as if the owner then ask. you wont be say. That way it doesn't feel like you are forcing the bill at them but they can keep up to speed with the costs.
