I have been put in charge of my practice becoming a training practice and i have just found out our visit is at the end of the month! So I am having a bit of a panic,
Has anyone been through this process at their practice and can give

RE: Becoming a training practice

Hi,

These visits are usually nothing to be worried about!
I set up my current clinic as a TP 2 years ago and everything went smoothly.
Make sure you have the list to hand of everything you need to have in clinic and know where it is. Nothing worse than being asked where various posters are and realising you forgot where you put them!
Have records of basic Health and Safety available as well as CPD records for vets and all qualified nurses.
If there is anything missing you will be sent a report within a few days and be asked to implement the items. Once it is done you just have to show proof of it.
Each area does need a SOP though which I found was a bit of a pain as the clinic had nothing when I arrived. Salus forms are great as 90% of the time the protocols are written for you but you can use the template to amend them :)

Hope that helps :)

RE: Becoming a training practice

Don't panic!

I used to carry out these visits and they are usually very informal. If there is anything missing or not quite up to standard then they will tell you what needs to be done and once you have made the required changes they will approve the practice.

SOPs are fine on the wall. Make sure that your health and safety stuff is all to hand. Also make sure that you can show when equipment was last serviced, etc.

Oh, and don't leave the key sitting in the DD cupboard door. This is frowned upon!

RE: Becoming a training practice

Yes we did this a couple of years ago. It's not that scary and if you do miss anything they will just give you a list of things to sort out and should all be fine.

As stated above they normally just have a look around, make sure you have all the equipment. They will probably want to see all the SOPs, risk assessments, health and safety documents, recent service certificates, PAT testing etc.

RE: Becoming a training practice

The inspection is usually a relatively easy one. Thankfully Its nothing like the RCVS practice standards inspection! They will just want a 'walk around' the practice to check you have all equipment and facilities listed and they usually want to meet informally with all the staff that play a part in the students training. As for protocols, each area of the building should have a list of SOP's in clear sight on one of the walls. This should be standard anyway for RCVS standards. Try not to worry too much as im sure you have everything in hand. Good luck! x
