Really paranoid about small furries being masked etc. Obviously it could take a while, but

RE: Planning on trying for a baby.

I only informed my boss when I was pregnant, our policy is to inform as soon as you know for safety reasons. I wouldn't tell your boss that you're planning on trying, it could take many months to become pregnant. With regard to masking down, in the first couple of weeks the foetus/sac isn't directly attached to you, so shouldn't be affected by this (that's my understanding).

When I did tell my boss we agreed to only tell the other vets so they wouldn't ask me to to help in risky situations. There are the obvious risk factors to watch out for, litter trays, masking, xrays etc but don't forget handling drugs and absorption via skin. I think there is a list in the small animal formulary of tetragenic and carcinogenic drugs.

Good luck! (and start taking folic acid now)
