Hi,

I've hand reared a few, sometimes they have gone a whole week without passing.

[/quote]

that would be a bit too long for me - I usually say 2 -3 days without assistance if they are feeding well

RE: Orphaned kitten

Thanks guys, was just getting worried as not sure how long is safe for him to go without a poo!! He doesn't seem to be in discomfort and is very strong and lively

RE: Orphaned kitten

Hi,

I've hand reared a few, sometimes they have gone a whole week without passing. As long as they aren't showing any discomfort then don't worry too much. But 0.2ml lactulose daily works well and you can increase the amount as they get bigger, and try giving them a syringe of water between feeds.

good luck :-)

RE: Orphaned kitten

Hey,

I hand reared my cat too and he used to get constipated a lot! I used to add a couple of drops of lactulose into his feeds which worked well. It's sometimes made him go the other way so I used to judge it and didn't put it in every feed. Sometimes he would still get bunged up so every 3-4 days my vet used to use a urinary catheter to put a tiny amount of micro lax into his bottom which again worked well! sometimes massaging their tummy helps too. Once u start weaning him it should stop, it's just the milk!

Best of luck sounds like uve got a strong fighter!

Xx
