Was wondering if any of you could help me with some questions on the OSCE's
* With the PCV do you need to do two to balance centrifuge?
*With the dispensing medication one- will they give you what drug they want, dose rate and how often?
Whereabouts are you taking your's?

I Think i'm going to go with dipping as less chance of spillage as can tap excess back in pot.

Thanks for all your help

RE: OSCE's in less than 3 weeks!! ekkkkk
I am confused now.... We have also been told by college to pipette in the exam which makes it much more difficult in the exam I think as you're faffing around with a pipette. Has anybody actually sat the OSCE SG Dipstick and just dipped instead of using pipette and passed that task?
Both methods are acceptable as long as your timings are good. Remember it's called a 'dipstick ' for a reason and the beading method is really only used if you have a tiny urine sample that you wouldn't be able to dip the whole test stick in.

RE: OSCE's in less than 3 weeks!! ekkkkk

I'm due to sit the exam again next week too. Just remember urine gets placed onto something absorbent like cotton wool or tissue, then gets placed in clinical waste.

If you are unsure you are allowed to ask the examiner, but you have to specify exactly what you are looking for and they will tell you where it is.

RE: OSCE's in less than 3 weeks!! ekkkkk

When you pipette of the supernatant where do you pipette this to- clinical waste? or is there a little pot which you then put in CW after?

I was always taught to pipette urine on but after looking at DVD's where they dipped I was concerned I was doing it wrong.

I have just been practicing loads as my CC has left to go to a new job and no one to replace just yet :(

Thank you so much

I did my OSCEs in June and passed so can hopefully answer your questions.

For the PCV I would do 2 to balance the centrifuge.

The dispensing medications one should be fairly straight forward. They give you most of the information but you may have do to some calculations. The label is usually quite simple and you will probably need to fill in the gaps for the drug, dose, instructions and amount of tablets. Make sure you pick the right label as they may put out a couple of things to confuse you. Just make sure the label has all the required legal things such as for animal use only, keep out of reach of children etc.

For the dipstick, dip not pipette. I was told by college that you can fail if you pipette as you cannot guarantee the correct timings for the readings. Yes there should be a sink.

Good luck! I was absolutely terrified but once you get in there it isn't so bad. All the examiners are lovely!

Do your college do any mocks or revision days? I found these very helpful. The College of Animal Welfare have some revision days coming up I think.
