As vet nurses were pretty fortunate that were in demand so can always go back if it doesn't work out. But sure u won't need to.

Hi all,

Thank you for your feedback - it is actually helpful :) I've been speaking to family as well and they say go for it. I'm unhappy at the moment & feel out of love with nursing so a change could be good - & who knows - I may be awesome at it. Ha. The money is becoming more & more of an issue for me as I get older so there's that as well (currently 32 and living with parents & have never really travelled). So I might just try it with this one company I have in mind.

I moved from full time nursing in 2008 and work in the insurance industry. I still nurse ooh 1:4 weekends. I love the balance and my industry role

I still get to enjoy nursing and use my skills in practice, within the rest of the issues.

I also really enjoy my insurance role and the opportunities that have come with it (I've travelled to India, been on BBC radio, done Seminars at the Love Pets Shows to name a few) - its really used my skills and knowledge. The other package benefits are great as well (9-5, higher holiday allowance, paid overtime, etc) and has allowed me to do things I never could on a VN salary.

Its worth having a look at whats out their and carefully sticking your toe in the water (which was my main reason for taking a weekend nursing job in the beginning incase I wanted to go back)

I was approached and moved into sales in 2005...I personally hated it....I do think it did have a lot to do with the company I was working for (no support from the boss at the time etc etc)

It is a lot of hard work and long days....however I did hear about a change to laws saying if you don't opt out of the 48 hr working week then you days start as soon as you leave the house and end when you get in so this would be something I would question if I was to go back into it.

Also be careful about "perks" such as company car etc as you do pay more tax etc (plus you don't build up no claims bonus-I was so glad I kept my own car as well as using the work car)

I do know plenty of people who have made the transition happily from nursing to sales it's entirely personal (I ended up missing the patients as well)

I have also been considering this for a while now but have yet to meet any former vns in this position :(.
