not sure if anyone can really answer this but we've adopted a dog who has had 3 ex laps for eating FBs prior to us getting him and I'm looking into getting him insured but just wondering what the insurance companies are likely to exclude due to

RE: Previous ex lap for FB - what would an insurance company exclude?

Hi. I agree with the exclusions, insurance policies tend to say if the animal has no clinical signs after a certain amount of time then they will start to cover for that particular problem/issue again :)

I have had issues with tesco in our practice. Pet plan we don't seem to have any issues with. I know they are a bit more expensive but you do get what you pay for. I am with pet plan for our old Germany shepherd and it costs me £50 a month but at least I have peace of mind I can do direct claims if he needed referring.

I spoke to Petplan who advised treatment for FBs or GI related problems would be excluded for 2 years. If after that time no further problems had happened then she would then have been covered for them.

Never used tesco. Mine are Petplan. Vet staff should get 20% off and I pay just over £30 for each of my two dogs (labs) for the CFL £12000 policy. Ones 9 and the other is 18 months.

HTH?

I would just give them a ring and ask.

I'd be surprised if they exclude it.

RE: Previous ex lap for FB - what would an insurance company exclude?

I would think they would exclude further FB ingestion but the only way to know is to ask them when you get a quote - some insurance co's will try & exclude as much as possible, others aren't so picky.

As far as Tescos go - haven't encountered problems with them paying out to clients but make sure you know what cover is being quoted for from each before you decide. As an RVN I presume you are aware of the different types/level of insurance cover available.

RE: Previous ex lap for FB - what would an insurance company exclude?
Just as a side note one of my old cats had cat flu as a kitten and I explained this when I took her on (at 9weeks) and PP said they would reassess the exclusion after a year and if she hadn't had any ocular or upper resp issues that required treatment in that 12 months they would remove the exclusion which they did so if you did go with petplan they may say the same
Similarly, when my parents bought their new cocker pup, he suffered from stress colitis for a few days. We divulged this to PetPlan and they said the same - given that Zac didn't suffer from further gastrointestinal problems, the exclusion would be lifted after the first 12 months :)

RE: Previous ex lap for FB - what would an insurance company exclude?

Thanks Steph. He's fine and has no health issues at all.
