They are really poor at responding to emails ( I have had to chase them several times!). You do get liability insurance as part of the cover ( £200,000 off the top of my head) and it's about £60.

I am self employed and part time, so don't earn enough to justify umbrella

RE: Nurse insurance
If you're only working part time as a locum it wouldn't be worth going self employed / limited company.
Interesting- when I started part time locuming, I was more or less forced into going self employed as practices wouldn't put me on PAYE and the umbrella companies I contacted said 16hrs per week wasn't worth going with them because of the percentage. I would have much preferred to be without the hassle of self assessment.

RE: Nurse insurance

hi

just a note - VDS doesn't cover liability insurance for nurses unless its through their practice policy. as a locum they state the locum practice may add you to their policy for the term that your there but this is dependant on the practice and I would not like to leave my insurance responsibilities with anyone else, particularly if I'm not staff there.

the VDS nurse cover gives you support and representation but NOT liability insurance and they are still looking into this post registration (ie..don't hold your breath for a quick resolution) so there are a few insurance co that will cover nurses independantly (there's a few threads on here if you search nurse insurance cover) however I get my liability insurance cover through my umbrella company.

RE: Nurse insurance

Has anyone obtained insurance via VDS?
Speak to Veterinary |Defence Society (VDS). You pay an annual fee of around £40-ish and it covers you for everything you need.
