Hello, im due to qualify this summer going (which is very scary!) I studied veterinary nursing through the diploma so have had a lot of experience in the veterinary industry - 3 years in total by the time I finish. I like working in a fast paced, busy environment and have discovered emergency work is what I enjoy best. I don't want to continue working at the hospital I'm currently working at. However, I don't feel like with the amount of experience I have I would be employable to other practices as an OOH nurse so am just wondering which is the best to way to get the most experience

[/quote]

Before you leave make sure you check your contract as many practices have a clause where if you leave within a specified time frame of being qualified you have to payback any costs they have covered towards your training. I had to stay for a year otherwise I would have had to pay back college fees, exam fees, registration fees and the days wage for every day I went to college.

RE: Help - I'm due to qualify!

Hi katie

what I did was send my cv to literally every training practice in my area, the rcvs website has a list to download. what about seeing if your current practice could become a tp? I know that colleges are always looking for new practices and some can offer deals to help them set up. You could also contact the nearest nurse training college and ask them for help as some actually find your placement once you start the course

hope this helps!

RE: Help - I'm due to qualify!

Hi, got any advice on how to get a trainee position? were you already working there when they offered you the position? did you have to fund it yourself?

RE: Help - I'm due to qualify!

I agree - definitely worth locumming if you feel confident enough. give me a shout if you need help finding a suitable practice I have more jobs than I know what to do with - lots are asking for newly qualified too

RE: Help - I'm due to qualify!

What about doing some ooh work as a locum to see if you enjoy it?

RE: Help - I'm due to qualify!

Have you looked at the vets now nursing edge?
