Today we were given a little more information, and I have asked whether it is possible to only have them filming during out of hours but it was not met with a very positive attitude. It was also made clear that either I accept it or leave.

have a read through this - it might help you understand what your practice needs to do and your rights as well.

You have nothing to be worried about, as you have said, you work hard and do your job well. They will see that. And if someone is watching you all the time, maybe it's them that need to do their job as opposed to sitting on their backside watching recordings!

RE: CCTV

Thank you all for the above help. I'm not really seeing the positives- I suppose that demonstrates the breakdown of trust between management and myself/other staff as the general feeling is that it is being used to monitor staff- not the animals. We already have a clocking in machine, we have to get overtime signed for and record times we start and finish each op. Although I know I work hard and do my job well, I suppose I'm concerned something will be taken out of context and I'm confronted about "why didn't you answer the phone after 4 rings" etc.

it just feels very unfair that as employees we have no control over our own data- or who can view/lIsten to it. I believe cameras will be filming images and sound all day- including the car park (so you can't even get away from it sitting out in the car at lunch!)

I will do my best to avoid the occassional scrub trouser un-wedgy or work mans bum situation but ultimately it will happen!

RE: CCTV
Any advice much appreciated as not worked in that sort of environment before (that I am aware of!)
if it is in use you should be aware of it. There should be signs posted saying that CCTV is in operation. I have worked in practices that use it - if its a decent system it can be useful, however the one time when I really did need it (assault in reception area) the pictures were that grainy they were useless. Not a fan of them in kennels if people use it instead of getting off their behinds to go and check animals - and yes it does happen but they are handy if you want to keep track of staff!

RE: CCTV

We have cctv to monitor what happens outside the building rather than inside. There is a night nurse in the building on their own so it's more used as a sense of security rather than to monitor inpatients. I do think that having cameras on the patients would be very beneficial but unfortunately we don't have that. You just have to be careful and leave your phone in your bag, no nose picking and as above poster mentioned, no bum scratching!!!

RE: CCTV

We have cctv in the kennels that we can log onto on our phones and watch over night. Ours don't record sound as we chose to turn it off. It's beneficial we can keep an eye on the kennels when we are up charging ops or in prep. It has however given some vets an excuse not to come in! But in all its done no harm. I think money would of been better spent on a Night nurse or vet. You just have to be careful and remember not to scratch your bum in the kennels!
