I had the exact same phone call yesterday, while at work, Lady called Rachel, was i free to chat? my name had come up in conversation, wanted to see if i was considering a new job now or in the future....

Definitely suspicious as i don't work with any other nurse's currently and don't socialise with any outside of work. Suspect it's a new technique of recruiting for an agency or alike.

I often give people a call to see if they're interested in a particular job - if it is really close to them, or if they fit the skill set perfectly etc etc. However I wouldn't lie and say someone recommended you? Neither would anyone else I know who might head hunt... So that is a tad strange. I wouldn't be too worried though

Might be just me, but I would be suspicious. Either that someone who I didn't know was recommending me, that they were lying about that recommendation, if so, how did they get my details? or that it might be my current employer checking up on me!!! (I'm a tad paranoid, though!) x

This is how I ended up in my current job! My boss had gotten in touch just as my contract was up at my old clinic. I believe she got my details through a recruitment agency. It worked out well for both of us as they needed a qualified nurse asap and I was able to work the terms of contract to suit myself better (providing on call accommodation and a yearly CPD allowance plus enrolment into further courses). I have been with them over six months now and I am still so glad I answered her call!

I understand you being wary, you don't want to upset things if your current boss found out, even though you didn't make the original contact! I would be flattered though, someone obviously thinks very highly of you! :)

I think if I was in the same situation, I'd probably reveal very little unless I knew the person who recommended me.

thats usually how it happens - although I was contacted at the beginning of May by a vet who said they had my phone number from another nurse and wondered if I was available. The other way people get hold of your details is when you fill questionnaires etc in at congress
