We try to recommend separating them though before jumping straight to neutering but you just can't convince some clients. We haven't done many spays on guinea pigs I must add. We don't see ferrets very often so I can't comment on that

They have food in their kennels until an hour before the surgery is planned to happen and at this point we premed them with vetergesic and they get an nsaid too.

RE: Pre op Protocols for small furries.

The practice has said they will do from 4 months, I only wrote 3 months as that was written on the article. Although we did have two 14 week old female kittens admitted last week for spaying and he was happy for them to be done as they were a good size. I think the general consensus with the new vets is 4 months but they are happy at times to spay females a little earlier on a case by case circumstance. Males definitely 4 months at the earliest. It still feels very alien to me after 21years telling owners 6months.

RE: Pre op Protocols for small furries.

Hey, sorry its not a reply to your question, but I would be interested to hear your reasons for early neutering, if you have the time, i ask as we do from 4 months and have not encountered any problem with this age to warrent considering doing it earlier so it is more out of curiosity than anything else. I cant imagine doing surgery like that on such young babies

RE: Pre op Protocols for small furries.

wow. poor babies
