This is the college your practice is registered with i.e who would have done the training practice approval / annual re approval. This can be different to the college that oversees the NPL, and will be the one the student attends. So you could be dealing with two colleges, one for the NPL and one for all training practice issues. Hope this helps :-)

RE: First time clinical coach...HELP

Wowsers thanks so much folks!!!!

If new to the practice, let them settle in for a week, have a chat about the NPL and then make a plan for the following week.

If they aren't new to the practice then you can start the NPL straight away, have a quick sit down with them and make a plan

if they are new to the NPL, start off with VN4 to get them to focus on getting some tasks opened. As its new for you it will also get you to have a practice at opening a few of the tasks and for them to start logging experiences. Also have a look through VN7 and VN1 as these are ones that could be opened in the first week (Disposing of sharps, needles etc in VN7)

if they have been doing the NPL get them to show you what they have been doing, and go through the units to see what tasks they maybe feel confident in and can be signed off so they have a plan of something to look out for.
Look for unopen tasks that you can easily demo and get opened for them.

don't do too many at first to get yourself started, then once you have tried to open, review and sign off, its all systems go!

have fun :D

RE: First time clinical coach...HELP

Don't be nervous! Have you been on a clinical coach workshop? Talk to your student, see what they're doing, ask about college work/ assignmnets etc. This way you'll keep track of how they're doing, and also how they're feeling about college and work. My student has nearly finished her qualification and I'm gonna feel lost without her!
