&lt;p&gt;you need to first calculate your BER if over 5 Kg it is 30x BW+70, so using your 10kg dog as an example: 30x10+70 = 370Kcal/24hr, the diet is effectively 1kcal/1gram so you then divide your BER by your energy content in the food: 370/1 = 370g/24 hrs, if you had a not so easy energy content ( say 127kcal/100g) you can either divide that by 100 to get your Kcal/g (1.27) or divide your BER by the content in 100g (370/127) and then multiply it by 100 both equations will give you exactly the same answer.&lt;/p&gt;
