We've recently caused a bit of animosity with the neighbours as my husband has decided to build a shed on the border line which they feel is an eye sore. It's quite stressful for me as I'm good friends with them but my husband isn't as

RE: Neighbour troubles...

Thanks for your replies

I've text my neighbour and explained it would have been better to have discussed it first, but that I hope we can still meet up. She responded really well and for now, it seems to have resolved!

When I woke up after my night shift, I didn't really understand what the drama was about - the shed is tiny! I obviously haven't said that, but as you say Arlo, I think it's just change they are struggling with. They need to realise that ultimately it is our garden and we can't check with them every time we want to do something.

I'll try and post a picture so you can understand what I'm talking about!

RE: Neighbour troubles...
My question is, how would you approach this?! Have any of you had a similar situation?
I think sometimes people just need time to get used to something like this, and you may find it will blow over (the situation, that is, not your shed).

My neighbours did something very similar, and I don't think their shed is one of the great architectural wonders of the world. But I've got used to it. And actually, now you mention it, I think I'm just going to let my hedge grow a little higher.

Can you post a photograph? If you're planning on doing some screening, or better hedging, I'd suggest you talk with them and ask them what would make it nicer for them before you plant.

I did that before I erected a trellis between me and my neighbour (same one that erected the shed). Showed them the design, explained how it would look nice and not block their view (and improve their 'side' without them having to pay anything). Still managed to give them a small heart attack when it was erected (it was bigger than they expected, and shiny zinc before I painted it black). I think (hope) they are starting to like it!

RE: Neighbour troubles...

but NOT Russian Vine - looks nice in the autumn but its a sod to get rid of once you have it and has a tendency to pop up everywhere - I know because my neighbours are moaning about mine, I have even used one of those flame thrower weeders and it still came back!

RE: Neighbour troubles...

Yeah, something like that on the shed could be an idea...

My other half is planning on putting some nicer hedges along the boundary line. I think I might drop them a text tomorrow or something and see if I can settle the dispute a bit

RE: Neighbour troubles...

if their view is a concern could you come to some compromise by offering to plant some 'green screening' - ie clematis or honeysuckle or something like that that will soften the outline
