Just wondering if you pay for your own antibiotic prescription charge when injured at work (i.e. cat bites!!). I've always paid my own but have heard rumblings that some practices pay for them. What happens in your practices?
thanks

tbh only times I have taken antibiotics were for serious bites and those involved trip to A&E so given tablets there and then no charge

[/quote]

last serious bite I had was @ 2002 (touch wood and all that) and was a bite into the joint of my right hand index finger - I even remember the name of the cat -Rudolph Hess. GP didnt prescribe abs as he didnt think it warranted them. Sadly he was wrong and I and my finger were admitted for i/v antibiotics and to have the joint opened 3 days later.

And Rudolph? he died the day after biting me!

RE: Staff Antibiotic and practice paying?

tbh only times I have taken antibiotics were for serious bites and those involved trip to A&E so given tablets there and then no charge

RE: Staff Antibiotic and practice paying?

I have never known any practice I have worked at pay for antibiotic scripts for work related injuries. One place I worked at paid for our rabies shots (rabies cover was mandatory under their terms of employment) as we covered a number of quarantine kennels but that is the only time I can recall a practice paying for anything medical wise. Hope that helps. I would suspect if the practice is paying for scripts it could be classed as benefits in kind for tax purposes? In other words it might be a lot less stress and simpler for you to just continue paying for your own scripts - unless you are getting a lot of bites?
