Do or have any of you worked in a Zoo or Exotic practice?
I'm interested in this area of work and just wondered if anyone has any experience(s), if they would recommend, (although I know it is a personal preference

RE: Exotic/Zoo Work?

Thanks for all your replies guys!

Also I think it makes you quite employable / valued if you can be the "go-to" person in your practice when a tortoise comes in etc.

We take work exp placements if you want to email me after 6 July

Its interesting though. You will have to enjoy working with the clients and helping them to get their husbandry right. Anaesthesia of exotics is tricky too. I find those nurses who have a genuine interest do best.

RE: Exotic/Zoo Work?

Celine who comes on here may be able to advise you on this?

RE: Exotic/Zoo Work?

Hi. I currently work in a mixed practice but we are also an exotic referral practise and do some work for the zoo. I do enjoy the exotic side to the practice, however I knew nothing about them before I started 1yr and a half ago.

We have one vet who is solely in charge of the exotics and I have learnt a lot from him, I also doing my exotic cert and have my exam this week - slighty scared

if its a line of work your interested in go for it as you see a lot of different cases!
