Great Western Exotics (Vets Now Referrals) are recruiting now for a full time day Exotics nurse in Swindon. Great team and fantastic varied exotics only case load. No nights. Details on the vets now website :)

I had an exotic centred vacancy come through to me for a nurse today. the client said they wanted someone with exotic experience or exotic interest - they weren't demanding experience or offering more money than a SA, they just said they would provide all the relevant training and to make sure the potential candidate didn't have a phobia hope this helps kind of :)

Hey, erm sorry I'm in Greece working with my sea turtles for two weeks, will reply properly at a later date! I fell into this field due to the zoo needing a locum and my experience with rescue and rehab of sea turtles but had no experience in exotics practice which would be a massive advantage if you do. Also I think it makes you quite employable / valued if you can be the "go-to" person in your practice when a tortoise comes in etc.

I made exotics my whole career - but came out of it recently as I found it all a bit soul destroying. they are often in a bit of a terrible state :(

Its interesting though. You will have to enjoy working with the clients and helping them to get their husbandry right. Anaesthesia of exotics is tricky too. I find those nurses who have a genuine interest do best.

Hi. I currently work in a mixed practice but we are also an exotic referral practise and do some work for the zoo. I do enjoy the exotic side to the practice, however I knew nothing about them before I started 1yr and a half ago.

We have one vet who is solely in charge of the exotics and I have learnt a lot from him, I also doing my exotic cert and have my exam this week - slighty scared

if its a line of work your interested in go for it as you see a lot of different cases!
