2) How did you find it? (what restrictions did you have in duties?) fine i carried on as normal, my team made sure i was well away from X-rays, and wasn't allowed to carry anything more than a jack russell, i was kept of chemo roles.
3) Did you return back to nursing? If so was this part time or full time? If not, did you take up another role e.g receptionist or another job in the veterinary field? no i took the hard choice to become a full time mum, i wasn't fully aware i could get child care vouchers or help with child care.
4) If you came back part time or with a different role, what was your reasons?
i eventually returned 7 yrs later. in a full time position,
5) If you returned to nursing, was you supported as a new mum? i have found a supportive practice
6) What do you think could be improved (if anything) for working mums in the nursing profession?
flexible starts and finishes, more part time hours

RE: Working mums in the veterinary profession - Help needed

https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/TRJCKCX

RE: Working mums in the veterinary profession - Help needed

This would be fantastic.
1) Did you feel supported during your pregnancy ?

Yes, very much so by management and the team. H&S reviews done but otherwise I carried on with little interference. All staff members very positive.

2) How did you find it? (what restrictions did you have in duties?)

No problems at all. I carried on as part of the nursing team. I didn't assist with anaesthesia and didn't go into the recovery kennels while animals were waking up. I didn't assist with radiography at all and used gloves to handle drugs. I was more likely to ask for help with heavy lifting. I carried on working with nights with a back up on call nurse but came off the weekend rota.

3) Did you return back to nursing? If so was this part time or full time? If not, did you take up another role e.g receptionist or another job in the veterinary field?

Returned to the same job role but decreased hours from 40 to 32. I initially used holiday/ weekend lieu days to go back 3 days a week for the first 3 months.

4) If you came back part time or with a different role, what was your reasons?

Wanted to spend more time with my baby.

5) If you returned to nursing, was you supported as a new mum?

Yes, very much so. particularly by the nursing team. Never made to feel guilty for having to leave on time or other restrictions with childcare.

6) What do you think could be improved (if anything) for working mums in the nursing profession?

I've had a very postive experience and am generally happy with how things work. If I had the option (financially) to work less then I think I would. Childcare costs are a huge consideration in the decision to go back to work or not. As a head nurse there is a reasonable amount of my wage left over after childcare costs to make it worth working though for some other nurses I know it wouldn't.

Happy to answer any other questions if you have any.
