Thinking of maybe doing it as a side job? Was just wondering if anyone on here does this/knows anyone who does and how I could maybe get started? Thanks:)x

RE: Pet Sitting

Hi Jessica

I would advise you get yourself some indemnity insurance, just to cover yourself if something happens or you are accused of doing something you didn't do. Word will soon spread by word of mouth if you are good and you will gain a good reputation and the bookings will come.

I would stipulate that all pets you care for are registered with a vet practice and that the owner gives you written permission to take their pet to the vet if you are concerned about their health while they are away (you should try to contact the owner beforehand if possible). I would also ask all pets to be up-to-date with their vaccinations and parasite control - if we don't promote correct care who will?!

The other thing to consider is a home visiting service. There is a local one to us who charges £15 per visit and who has a great reputation because the visit includes and hour of playing, grooming, walking, feeding and the owner gets a written report at the end detailing how their pet was on each visit.

Hope that helps.
