http://www.amazon.co.uk/Baillieres-Nurses-Dictionary-Health-Workers/dp/0702053287

I see its in its 26th edition now - so a bit more recent than mine! I think mine was either 9th or 11th edition, I found it really handy for learning terminology and showing you how to do calculations. Fits easily into a uniform pocket (if its still the same size). I have bought a number of these over the years for various bods and they have always been well received and well used

RE: Present for New Starter

Hey,

Personally my speedy digital thermometer is a godsend. Most of the ones bought in by the practice take a minute or more to obtain a reading whereas mine takes less than 10 seconds - particularly useful for angry cats. You can purchase them from a pharmacy (normally in the children/baby care section) or Amazon. A flexible tip is a bonus.

Hope that helps :)

It is very good and has lots of handy info in it. A stethoscope is more a graduation/ finishing course thing. For books it would be the BSAVA textbook of veterinary nursing, an anatomy textbook or the victoria aspinall book :)
