The apprenticeship in veterinary nursing is an apprenticeship; but the theoretical learning of the course (the classroom bit) is identical whether or not you are a paid apprentice or a full time student. So you might be in a 'mixed' class of apprentices and non-apprentices; the main difference is the apprentices most often are taking extra qualifications for maths and english support, and the diploma students are just doing the main nursing course.

Check with your training provider/college to find out what your current status is - it always helps to clarify the situation before necessarily going for legal advice.

Best wishes,
Mark

RE: Veterinary Nursing Diploma now an apprenticeship

It is set out like an apprenticeship but I dont think its classed as one. Being paid for that day will depend on tr contract, if it's classed as day release they wont Pay you but, some will class it as a full day's work.

Best bet is join the BVNA (£27 for student) and they offer free legal advic so can find out properly where you stand.

RE: Veterinary Nursing Diploma now an apprenticeship

I'm on a level 3 diploma course as an apprentice and there is a mix of people in the class who get paid for college days and those who don't. Your friend needs to check her contract as it will tell her more. When I did my first year training we did it as a day release and were not paid by the practice for our day at college (and this was quite common then) - we were given the option of working extra weekends or hours in the week on the days that we were in the practice to make up our wages, and yes we paid for our course as well. It can vary greatly from practice to practice - some will pay for the day at college and some won't some will pay for the course and some won't.
