They used to be hung on hooks, but since they were always buried under our coats made it a total chore to get one down! Plus the hooks were in the bathroom, so if someone was using the facilities you just had to go back later...!&lt;/p&gt;

I dont need to currently because ours hang from hooks and the larger ones slot behind a shelf to keep them flat but in the past I have found if you stretch a piece of elastic between two hooks lower down the door/wall and tuck the larger ones behind that it keeps them flat to the wall (even ones that have been previously used.
