i applied for a couple of jobs through various veterinary agencys - i never heard anything about the jobs in question, but ended up getting emails about locum vacancies which i had already said i was not interested in any sort of locum work and wanted permanent work in a specific area.

RVN's are in such short supply nationwide that it's worth emailing your CV with a covering note to any practices you are interested in and asking them to keep you in mind even if they aren't advertising. I'm sure the agencies on here will jump on me for this but you'll save yourself and your new employers money!

I locummed for 2 years after I qualified and used Recruit4Vets, Very helpful team and was never short of work!

I agree it is a rarity I have had problems (and none with GL) I don't want to scare people but just to make them aware.

Firstly let me sincerely apologise on behalf the company for this, it was not our intention to cause you any problems with your current employer, this unfortunately happened with a new junior member of staff who in error had contacted your employer via email. But this is no excuse and you have every right to be annoyed. For the record the person responsible is no longer with the company and had a disciplinary for their carelessness. We have worked with over 5000 vets and nurses over the years and this an extreme rarity- Practices can often have a number practices and often with different names so human error can occur. None the less it is upsetting and inconvenient for you so again you have my sincere apologies for this.

Yes I have had this a couple of times with different agencies. Another one was agencies ringing you up when you were at work and leaving a message with the receptionist to call them back as they had found me a potential job. But the one that really took the biscuit (and used to advertise on here a lot) sent me the details of a job - one that I was already being interviewed for - and then when I got it without their introduction because I already had the interview booked, demanded a finders fee from my new employer which, guess what, was then taken off the salary I was being offered. To further add to the insult before I had even received my first wage packet in the new job this agency was back on the phone offering me a placement with another practice!

I went with gardener and Llewelyn but after telling Them not to contact my employer as I hadn't said I wanted to leave they sent my boss an e mail saying I was looking for work!!!!! I was fuming so was my boss! They didn't even apologise for their error! Thank good my boss was ok . But I certainly wouldn't use them again!!!!

I rec recruit4vets - they don't rip you off and look after you (just my experience) although I must admit its nearly 10yrs since I last locumed for them. I still get the odd email

I've had quite a bit of contact with various recruitment agencies over the years, and I've found some are absolute sharks. Although I've never used GL myself, I've always found them to be very professional, and thoroughly un-sharkish!
