Yes unfortunately this was another issue.. I would contact them through there facebook page as they are much more likely to respond then via email. Again they seem to fail to tell students that the facebook page exists, and the best place to go for help!

did you ever get contact details for a tutor? I'm really struggling to get help with a question and have asked 2 weeks ago and am still waiting, did send another email 2 days ago but am still waiting and getting frustrated!

I completed this in September:-) Its was a lot of work, and didn't feel I personally achieved that much from it:-( I also found Coape to be slightly disorganised mainly due to the fact that it is quite a new course, so had some issues with poorly worded questions etc and they have been tweeking units slightly after every batch of students, so think there are learning as they go. I'm sure once the course becomes more established it will improve. I really debated doing the coape course or the BVNA one and wished I had gone for the latter. I found the 2 month time limit ok, and for most units finished within 6 weeks, but I was allowed to study at work, which if I would have really struggled, and I don't know how some of the others nurses in my group got it done without time at work to study! Books I would recommend is the Agar book plus the clinical nutrition books by the Mark Morris institute. You can pick the up older additions really cheaply, and the newest addition is available for free on the website to download. Also they like lots of research, so read lots articles from vn/vet times etc and use those. Finally making sure you read up on harvard referencing.. This I have never done as i am an NVQ nurse, so found it really difficult initially until I did my home work, as have never used this system before, so would recommend you do this if your not familar to save time and stress!

They also have a closed group Facebook page which you can join once you have registered on the course. I found that useful as you can discuss with other people on the course, COAPE staff also add pointers to aid you in the right direction. I got so stressed at one oddly worded question and found everyone had the same issue and we all helped each other. So its worth joining the group,

They couldn't post the books to me for free as I don't work in the UK, thankfully I have managed to get hold of them from our rep here.

I think ill be using the internet a lot, I can't afford to buy any more books, and am limited as to what I can get hold off at my clinic.

2 months for each unit and assignment isn't to bad, thanks for the heads up :)

Hope you didn't buy those books as you get them free with the course!

You get 2 months to complete each unit and assignment but you are allowed to ask for an extension but only in extreme circumstances and you get penalised if you hand an assignment in late.

its a lot of work and the reading around the subject takes ages so I've been very close to the deadlines each time but as they say you get out of something what you put into it!

I've been wondering about this course as well, and have enrolled to start Feb 1st - they mentioned the royal canin encyclopedias to me which I have just managed to get hold of. Does anyone know if it has to be completed in the allotted time or can you do it faster/slower

If you are near to a college/uni that trains vets or nurses then contact them. I contacted the college where our students go to explaining my situation and they allowed me access to their library. Could not borrow the books but photocopied what I needed.

thats kind of your parents Books are pretty expensive, I think the nutrition one was about £40 so I asked my boyfriend for it for Christmas.

they say that the reference guide is in handbook but it wasn't so I had to email for it to be sent to me. There's a website called neils toolbox that does the referencing for you - you just put the details in and it writes it out for you to copy and paste into your reference list,saves a lot of time

my unit 2 assignment has to be in on the 2nd and I'm waiting to hear back about how to answer one of the questions as I've no idea what it's actually asking lol so I'm a tad worried I'm going to have to submit it not fully finished

its good to know someone else on the course so we can vent if necessary!

I've changed the message settings now - it seems that the default is 'friends only' and I've changed it to 'everyone'!

I'll look into those books, thank you, I'm a locum at the moment and my parent's have kindly funded the course for me, so anything else I need I will have to fund myself!

If you're using info from the internet, how are you referencing it at the end?

I think the course start date is 1st Feb, but I've emailed them today as I haven't heard since before Christmas and I need to pay a re-registration fee for deferring.

it may well be me being dim not being able to send you a pm!

ive found too that the nursing books lacking in detail for the assignment so I've got the nutrition and disease management for veterinary technicians book which is great and the small animal nutrition book by agar (which is a tad out of date now) and some emergency books that i already had from my previous course. The internets really useful too especially as you can get all the articles from the vet times etc

Thanks so much for the info, that's very useful. I did get sent the first unit, so have a rough idea what is expected (which is why I deferred until my son started playschool as I quickly realised I would struggle to find enough time otherwise!)

Which books are you finding helpful in completing the units? I'm concerned that I don't have enough and my VN books are pretty out of date now, any you can recommend?

i can't send you a pm for some reason. The course is ok,am currently on the second unit. Have to read around the subject a lot as the course notes aren't in great detail to be able to answer all of the assignment questions in as much detail as they require. My only slight criticism is that we aren't assigned a personal tutor so getting help with any queries has proved a little difficult but so far it's useful and I've already implemented a feeding plan sheet that's being used for the inpatients.

Be prepared to become obsessd with nutrition as I now have lol!
