infact they sound exactly the same symptoms

she then felt dizzy if she looked a certain way and it could sometimes just come on randomly and the room would just start spinning

She wnt to see the stroke unit and they said she could have crystals (?) in her inner ear and had a manouvre to manipulate the crystals to move and it got worse, it was repeated and shes ok now, gets it every so often

Think she had some form of vertigo, not entirely sure what the crystals were? but the manouvre seemed to do the trick?

When I tried to sit up I nearly fell out of the bed and had severe and I mean severe nystagmus, I had to close my eyes.

I somehow made it to the phone and called NHS24, even though I had a good idea what it was I still wanted re assured. Anyway the nurse asked me to do 2 head movements and tell him what the worst reaction was (something to do with what part of the cochlea is affected), I got my hubby to take me to the DR's in the morning as there is no way i could have driven, Anyway he gave me meds called stemetil........ which is an anti psychotic drug (keep the sniggers and jokes to yourself Nick..lol) but is particularly good for this condition. I had to take them for 2 weeks then re visit if no better. I started to fel better after a few days, and was back to normal after 8 days. I did however get it again a month or so later, but not as bad and I only took the pills for a few days and it subsided.

My Dr did ask me to keep a diary though to see if it happened agai... in particular if it happened at the same time each year, as they find people tend to get it in annual bouts.

I thankfully have never had a serious bout again and never needed the meds, but have had the odd lightheaded dizzy spell.

My friends mother suffers from this too and she gets it every year at the same time. I think the dr was possibly saying there might be a pattern with it due to annual airborne things such as pollen....... but not pollen , but something that might be in the air annually. Incidentally my friends mum gets it at the same time of year that I had it, and so have you.

U sound like u may have something simular but the doctor will know more. vertigo can be brought on by different reasons. U may wake up t/m & be fine but if u wanna know more than let me know. I've been to doctors, ENT consultant etc & know all about vertigo if that is wot u have, maybe the doc will tell u different t/m though. Lie in a position which does not make u dizzy or bring on the nausea. It can be rough i know. It came out of nowhere, the morning i was fine, went to work out and after that it all went in circles around me. Have NO idea how i drove home without having an accident. Got home, out the car, almost made it to the door when i vomited all over the place (thankfully i was still outside lol). Could not stand straight and managed to crawl on my knees into the house. Crawled to the bed and did not move. Stayed like that for days on end, went to the doc a few days later (could not go earlier as i couldnt move... getting to the loo was not funny) and he gave me some pills but no diagnosis. On the way home from the doc, i was so dizzy i hit a curb and blew my rear tire and it stayed with me for a good few weeks although it was mild with the pills. Took ages to go away fully and even now i cannot lie flat on my back with my head straight (looking at the ceiling) without that dizzy feeling coming on. I can lie on my back, but need to keep my head turned to one side slightly.

Re: Feeling Dizzy...

Thats good that you have a diagnosis.
