Well, what I really meant was 'serving a particular kind of client'. But unless anyone else wants to chip in and disagree with you, I'll leave as is.

Just finished manually updating all the jobs on the system, so it is all working properly now.

if by 'particular working environment' you mean internal politics - you are dead right but on the ground level I don't think they are that much different

That's why I asked! I just thought that perhaps some people might want to seek out jobs in the charity sector, like PDSA / Blue Cross etc. because it's quite a particular working environment (no?)

But I'm more than happy not to categorise them - as I say, want to keep the list as simple as possible.

unless you are working for free what's so special about charity? Referral yes I can see that one will be useful - but charity? I do think an academia subsection would be useful (even if its only so we can see where all the qualified staff are disappearing to)

Partly the list has to be defined by the likely number of jobs posted in the category. It's only necessary to split them out into different categories if the person searching is presented with a big long list that it would be helpful to make smaller.

I also have to balance against the need to keep the list nice and simple, so the user isn't presented with a list of possible employer types as long as their arm!

Having been through a lot of the jobs over the weekend, I think I only saw one job in a call centre, and a handful in industry / academia, so I'm not sure it is necessary to subdivide them quite yet (particularly when you bear in mind that the geographic search narrows the list down in the first place).

There were a reasonable amount of jobs in referral centres and charities, hence my suggestion, and wondering whether it would be helpful to differentiate them.

It would be handy if you could have a separate Industry and Academia; the two fields aren't identical and you'll often get people looking for one or the other, but not both. Calling them 'other' when actually it's a growing percentage of VN jobs is...well...can we please just not call them 'other'?

how about call centre? because when you do a search you will know straight away if its a hands on job or a sit on the end of the phone job
