exactly - and this is why I cannot see a peaceful co existence, if independence is truly what the Scottish want ( and another referendum should clear this up once and for all) then let them have, it will come at a cost to everybody but with the caveat of no bail out if it goes wrong. It will not benefit anybody but if it makes people happy.....

The policies on NHS, Trident, fracking etc are kind of what I meant by the lefter wing stuff.

No need to apologise for nationalism swinging it for you! I can see it's a beguiling message, one that resonates (hate that word) to some degree with me too. And from what I understand (which is not an awful lot, it must be said!), there is a strong, valid argument for greater devolvement of power to Scotland.

What I hate to see, though, is the divisive nature of the dialogue (Sturgeon's open hostility to the Tories was I think foolish), which does seem to be taking us down a path that would not be in anyone's best interests (ie Scottish independence). Also, I think Labour were resigned to losing seats to SNP after their closeness with the Tories in the Better Together campaign and the subsequent 'vow' after the result. I think the proposed EU referendum will make or break the union..

Not just the nationalist ideals (although swings it for me I'm afraid - sorry!) but policies on NHS, Trident/Faslane, fracking... I know a fair few 'no' voters who voted for the SNP in this election so it can't all be about the nationalism! I don't think anyone (up here anyway) expected an outright Tory win either. I am surprised by just how many people voted SNP though!

I don't see how this can ever be a peaceful co existance. If independence is so important and a second referendum supports it then let it happen and see where it takes us

Very glad Balls has gone. Delighted that the ghastly George Galloway has been sent packing.

I wonder what will happen as a result of the SNP success.

Seems to me that the SNP was elected primarily because of its nationalist / socialist stance (would you agree, Ceri Boyd).

That's all fine and dandy - I don't begrudge the Scottish voting for what they want. But I do wonder whether two such contradictory ideologies (quite well left and right of centre) can exist in harmony within a united kingdom.

Well, the two could be coincidental.

I really believe that many people never realised just how bad things were when the coalition took power, or they've forgotten.

The banks reportedly came within hours of not being able to refill the cash machines.

Some argue that wasn't Labour's fault, and I agree to an extent. They under regulated the banks, but they were egged on by the others.

What DID happen under Labour was that they doubled spending, sold all the country's gold for a pittance and raided the pensions. All of which meant that when the crash came, we were all left staring over the precipice.

Against that, the coalition has brought a recovery which, whilst incomplete, is the envy of Europe.

I admire them for that and I'd vote for them BOTH for that reason and to keep Balls away from the Exchequer. I fear markets won't take kindly to him and as a consequence, the cost of borrowing would rise, which would be an absolute disaster.

But I suppose if I was in an area where it was a fight between the LibDems and Labour, I'd vote LibDems.

The dilemma is do you vote for the party whose politics you most admire or do you vote to keep out the party/parties that make you seriously concerned for the future of the country?

More than any election in recent history this surely is the one where if you have the vote you have a responsibility to use it!

We're a hot spot for Lab to get a LD seat. I'm fed up with Lab coming round and telling me all the bad things about LD, yet nothing about their own policies. It's got so bad they've had to retract libellous statements and flyers!

if I was still at home I wouldn't be voting SNP.

a vet I used to work with described me as a conservative big and little c - but personable with it. Was never sure how to take that. Whoever gets in just hope they do the best for the country as a whole, there's good bits and bad in all the manifestos.

I'm really quite worried for the immediate future if Milliband/Balls get in (regardless of whether or not they're propped up by the SNP), or if we have a hopelessly hung parliament.

I'm torn between Lib Dems (their post grad funding is very appealing to me) or Plaidd Cymru (being welsh and also the local community things they do). But I'm not sure as they all lie :( I just hope a certain man doesn't get in to power, if that's the case i'll be moving abroad!

One of the partners at my practice said there is one party which promises 2 of the most important things to him. Banning non-stun slaughter and abolising the inheritance tax. He said if he voted for this party he would be labeled a racist and a bigot. Guess which one...
