Has anybody doing the Certificate or Diploma in Feline Veterinary Nursing? I am very interested and was considering in enrolling for the sept intake.
If you have, what's it like? is there practicals, alot of coursework, assignments?

Im hoping to start in September too! The practice are willing to fund me :-)

RE: Feline Veterinary Nursing

I did the certificate a couple of years ago and i found it really interesting and learnt lots from it. Lots of work and reading as mentioned and some of the workbooks require essay answers with referencing and a cat behaviour case you have dealt with in practice. Sections include nursing, behaviour and nutrition amongst others. For anyone going down a cat behaviour route, have or are obtaining a feline friendly practice status, or just nurses with an interest in or wishing to know more about cats then i think its invaluable. I passed with distinction so was chuffed to bits. ISFM will then list you as a Certificate holder (and your practice) on its website and you get to use the post nominals ISFM CertFN. Still considering the Diploma which is twice as much work i think! Best of luck with it.

RE: Feline Veterinary Nursing

I'm currently doing the Diploma. You have to complete two foundation units first then move onto the Diploma which contains 6 units. On average their are roughly 10-15 questions per unit. There are no practicals and you have a year to complete the course. It is challenging but interesting at the same time. Some questions ask you to discuss your own clinic and how well you do things and what areas you could improve to make more cat friendly

RE: Feline Veterinary Nursing

I'm doing the ISFM Cert - they recommend to do this one first before you do the Diploma. But as said above it is really interesting. There are 6 units andyou get 2 months to do each so you can work at your own pace. I find it interesting as it is alot of wider reading and your opinions based on that wider reading!

There is also a BVNA CPD day in July with Vicky Halls that you might find interesting, she is going to help people work up behaviour cases and how best to approach them.
