Thanks for reading in advance...
Unfortunately I've had to reluctantly hand in my notice as my mother in law who usually looks after my daughter and takes my son to and from nursery has got a new job and can no longer help me out.

I finally returned to nursing 3 years ago to a small practice. Its still hard juggling school, childcare and a husband that works away alot, and i dont have a huge amount of family who can help.

RE: Any mums out there taking a break from nursing?

How about any opportunites for night work so child care isn't an issue. Or maybe work like vetfone that can be done from home to keep your hand in a little.

RE: Any mums out there taking a break from nursing?

Thanks for you replies ladies, yes I had Katie, but would unfortunately would loose out on spending time as a family when my partner is home from work- catch 22 situation there!

Louise, 10 years, wow thats a long time, well done though, full time mummy isnt the easiest job is it lol! Yes i'm very lucky and my work have already said about even locuming for them possibly in the future, and I would like to think if there was a position when I wanted to go back they would take me back on!

Your advise on enjoying the time with the kids is spot on... they are only little once!

Thanks soooo much :)

RE: Any mums out there taking a break from nursing?

I worked full time for 10 years as VN and then took 10 years off for maternity leave. I have 3 children, aged 10,8,5. I have no relatives living nearby and didn't want to leave my children with a stranger. Also, no way I could pay for childcare for 3 children on nursing wages! I went back a year ago as a locum, mostly working night shifts. I've recently been offered a permanent job 2 days per week at my old practice. It was really hard going back after such a long break and very scary to start with. But it's suprising how much comes back to you, once you get going! I'm now really enjoying myself again And so pleased I went back. Enjoy the precious time you have with your children while they are still little, you won't regret it. You are not planning to be away for as long as I was, so I'm sure you won't forget too much. Your practice must really value you if you have been there 12 years. Perhaps they will be able to take you back when the time comes? Good luck xxx

RE: Any mums out there taking a break from nursing?

Have you thought about becoming a locum maybe on weekends when you can get childcare?
