I was wondering if anyone on the forum does cani-cross? I've been thinking about trying it with my (6kg!) dog as he's so energetic and loves to come running with me (we do anything from 5-10km).
Does anyone else do this sport in their spare

RE: Cani-cross for beginners

I run my huskies, I don't trust their recall and they're always kept on a lead however I have a paranoia of them snapping their leads or breaking out of their harness's and escaping so i've always used equipment from companies that make extra strong stuff for sled dogs. I use a walking belt and bungee lead anyway even if there just walking and i've currently got a mix of stuff from snowpaw store, manmat and hooner sled dog equipment. There's also indy dog and culpeppers. Your priorities having a small dog are probably completly from mine but I think some of these companies deliver abroad and i've found them to be long lasting and excellent quality. A lot of people with huskies walk / run them on walking belt with a bungee lead because they pull so a general search for sled dog walking equipment will probably lead you to lots of other similar options.

I struggle with back pain sometimes and my dogs are trained to pull / work in harness and i've found the wider padded belts to be much more supportive and comfortable but that probably wouldn't be an issue for normal dogs :)

RE: Cani-cross for beginners

I can second K9 trail time!
I'm non-UK at present. I'm looking for local groups but I don't speak the language so it's tricky! What breed of dog do you run with KDN? How long have you been doing it for? Can you recommend any good webshops where I can get the belt/bungee lead?

I do canicross running! Where are you based? Best thing to do is find a group and try to go to a social run. Then you can try out kit etc. Lots of small breed dogs participate!!
