So it isn't just locums.

RE: Locum Nurses

Janine09

My post was not directed at ALL locum nurses. I am very proud to say that we have 2 LONG TERM locums and they are fantasic people who help out at a moments notice.

My comments are directed at those WHO DO let practices down in the hope that it will hit their conscience!

I am sorry if I offended you personaly as that was not the reason I posted my comments.

Just wanted to highlight the increasing number of cases!

RE: Locum Nurses

Not all locum nurses let down practices! Please don't tar us all with the same brush!

RE: Locum Nurses

Sadly your not the only one to be let down by others. We have been searching for an independant locum for over 6 months now and of the 2 people who has show interest in the job, both have cancelled literally at the last moment, one was due to pop in for a look around and cancelled via email the previous evening at 11pm! They don't care how much they get your hopes up that finally some cover has arrived and how grateful you would be to them if they were to start the job, and think that a simple sorry changed my mind over email is acceptable!

The same unfortunately has been found with students, sign up for a 2 year commitment to training then dump and run 'due to change in circumstances' there's a reason we choose to work with pets not humans!

RE: Locum Nurses

"A verbal contract isn't worth the paper it's written on." - sadly, this is more and more true today. I'm actually mildly surprised the locum didn't insist on the contract, as it's more often the employers that mess with the locum, rather than the other way around.

Bad form on the part of the locum, of course. Sympathies! This is the worst time to try and find a locum. (well, now and Christmas, anyway.)
