I have written to practices in Huddersfield, Leeds, Bradford, Wakefield and Dewsbury areas with no luck so far.
Was wondering if anyone

RE: Student Veterinary Nurse Placement

Thanks Sal. I think now I know how hard it is to get a placement I would consider an apprenticeship, there was one recently available that I responded to to find out more about it, but I wouldn't of been able to finish my A levels as they wanted an immediate start and I would have had no guarantees of being taken on to a Veterinary Nurse training course in the future plus the only qualification I would have gained was a NVQ level 2 in customer service, so felt it best to continue with studies. Thanks again, Matty

RE: Student Veterinary Nurse Placement

Many thanks , I have checked my letters of introduction to ensure they contain all my work experience and skills that would be of interest to a practice. Perhaps I may have to look at wider practice positions in order to get a foot int he door, at this stage I am looking at all vacancies and I am considering relocating too.

There are still practices that offer accommodation but it can sometimes come at a very high price - ie if you are on site it becomes very easy for people to take advantage of that

RE: Student Veterinary Nurse Placement

Hi, it took me years to get into vet nursing so I appreciate how hard it is. I don't know if this helps at all but would you consider an apprenticeship? I may know of something if that would interest you. Other wise, keep looking, practices will soon be recruiting for new students in time for September :-)

RE: Student Veterinary Nurse Placement

Hi Matty

Unfortunately you have chosen one of the most competitive careers to get into! As much as there are tonnes of jobs going for RVNs there seems to be more students than qualified nurses these days.

I don't have any tips per say but I would recommend evaluating your CV. Do you have much experience working in practice? As this plus good grades are what I certainly look for when employing a new student. It might be worth looking at kennel assistant or even receptionist jobs as well, just so you can get a foot in the door. I so also know a few people that have relocated across the country in order to train as a nurse.

Best of luck, let us know how you get on :)
