Could use some advice on a situation I am currently involved in please.
I work in a small practice and for the past 5 months the vet I work with has been physically agressive towards dogs in our care. It has started to become more often

RE: Inappropriate behaviour from vet

if you have raised a grievance there should be an investigation followed by a report setting out the findings and if there is any action to be taken (which you may or may not be privy to).Might be worth asking the HR dept or whoever is dealing how this is progressing. they may be able to shed a little light? Other than that if you have tried to sort this out in house and it has gone no where and you still have concerns then your only other recourse may be the RCVS.

Give your HR another chance but bring in a deadline by which you need to know what is being done or this could trickle on for ever. - and I know this because the HR dept at a place I worked strung me along for 5 long and miserable years whilst they were supposedly investigating a bullying manager!

RE: Inappropriate behaviour from vet

Regardless of wether your vet is on anti-depressants or not, agression to patients is never appropriate. While an individuals health (be it mental, physical or emotional) should not be disregarded, it sounds like your vet should not be at work right now. If he/she had two broken legs, he/she would be deemed unable to currently perform his/her job appropriatly and would be put on sick leave-depression and mental illness should be treated the same, especially in this case when the potential for danger is so high (what if a wriggly dog snaps back and someone gets bitten? its not just the health and safety of your vet and your patients, you and your colleages are equally being endangered by this behaviour).

Can you go back to your company manager and repeat this grievance? Maybe ask what is being done? It might be that they are doing something behind the scenes and trying to be discreet. Or, if they are not, a repeat might outline it again for them. Have you got a diary of incidents?

Best of luck. Well done for trying to look out for your patients and do the right thing in an awkward situation.
