Does anyone know how to back up the files on the computer for a digital xray? I have no idea and it needs to be done :(

RE: Backing up Digital Xray

If you click the button on the bottom right hand corner that says main menu. There will then be a few options on the top half of the screen. On the right hand side there will be the option "export images" click that and a menu will appear on the bottom with all the x-rays on the system.

You can then select which x-ray you want to export by ticking a box. once youve ticked the box underneath on the bottom left hand side you can select the format you wish to export the images in either dicom or jpeg. We back ours up to an external hard drive in the dicom format.

Then on the right hand side you can click the export option. A window will pop up asking you to select a destination, if you are exporting them in dicom it will have to be into an empty folder you made specifically. Then click ok once you have selected the destination. If you are doing a lot of x-rays it make take a fair while.

We export ours to an external hard drive and each x-ray is kept in an individual patient folder to make finding them later on much easier.

I hope that makes sense to some degree? I was doing it from memory, but I have written out some instructions at work so if it confuses you I can email you them.

RE: Backing up Digital Xray

We have the NX Agfa.

Trying to remember off the top of my head, on the main page near the top right corner says something like "Export 1Dvd or 3 CD waiting" or something along those lines. Click on it and I think it's pretty straightforward. I need to back up ours this week so if you send me your email I'll send photos of me doing it step by step

RE: Backing up Digital Xray

I completely understand this, this is just how we have been asked to do it by our head office.

RE: Backing up Digital Xray

Yes!
We export all our images to PACS on a dedicated server. PACS servers are quite expensive but really good at keeping data safe as they use special RAID settings and save images over multiple hardrives so you should never loose data even if one or two hardrives go down. Most systems now will enable you to pull imges up on any network connected device with a web browser.

Hope that helps,
Stu

RE: Backing up Digital Xray

we pop ours onto a DVD what machine have you got?

RE: Backing up Digital Xray

I'm guessing they're currebtly stored on the hard drive of the PC attached to your CR reader??

You could use a web based cloud storage such as drop box. However, this would probably not comply with data protection act with regards to parient confidentiality as these are open to hacking. You'd be better off going for external storage in the form of a hard drive. You can either go for a wired one ie plugs into PC or wifi enabled one. Wifi would be more convenien as you would be able to access images anywhere in the building. For example consult rooms, theatres, conference rooms. Etc.

Most hard drives are plug and play and don't require installing. Once linked with the PC you can right click the folder containing the images and choose the backup to your external drive. You can probably set it up to auto backup

the other option is a PACS, which stands for Picture Archiving Computer System. Which is basically external storage for images. http://www.celticsmr.co.uk/products/veterinary-division/x-ray/pacs-archiving/visbion.aspx
