I work part time for an emergency centre and only wotk weekends and bank holidays. The work is definately out there. Probably only in larger towns and cities

Hi, I have the same problem regarding childcare issues and fitting round school time etc..since I came back into nursing I have been doing locum work for Vets Now..they email all the locums which shifts are available..you can work in any of the clinics near you but I stick to the one nearest to me and I can choose the shifts I want - these are normally weekends either day shifts or the odd night shift (these tend to be very full on and you have to sleep the next day, although I should imagine it varies between clinics). It might be worth contacting them to see if you can register as a locum with them. Also, the more shifts you do with them the better paid you are so that is a bonus! Recently I have been getting at least one shift a weekend. Good luck, I know what its like trying to fit kids round work!! Aaaargh! ;)

I have done weekend only work for an emergency clinic (not the corporate) - they used seperate staff for the weekend but would warn you their shifts were a killer (6pm Fri through till 9am Mon). I hear they have split them up a bit now

Hi,

It is definitely around! I've done referral hospital ward nursing just at weekends (days only, though nights were also available) and my current first opinion practice has previously had nurses working weekends only (helped the week-day team who were very grateful they didn't have to rota on for a Sat or Sun!).

I'd suggest making an approach to various practices local to you and asking if they need a weekend nurse!
