A person from poss 'select employment agency' asked to speak to me. Explained that she didn't have my home number and hoped I didn't mind being contacted at work. But when we were emailing around agents to advertise a position my manager contacted them - turns out it is just cold calling. They (for a fee) go looking for nurses compared to other agents who wait for nurses to come to them. They check practice websites to see who works there, then call them. I guess they get lucky sometimes, and had they done that to me in a previous job I probably would have shown interest, but it was so awkward being phoned at work, and feels even more shady when they ask for your mobile number so you can talk more in private later on.

RE: Cold calling.

I had one on Tuesday and again yesterday - like you I couldn't catch the name of the company.
