In law I would guess that if you were employed to cover maternity then the employer has no obligation to keep you on beyond that period - do you have a contract, and what does it say? (nb if you're a BVNA member (or become one) you can go to their helpline for employment advice).

I would ask for a formal chat with your employer so that you can sit down and discuss it properly. Make it clear that you are keen to continue to work there, and what days/hours you can do, and see if that fits with what is required. Sometimes these problems are just down to simple communication.

You were saying that the employer is taking on ANAs? The issue may be pay here. Clearly as an RVN you will be remunerated at a higher rate than an ANA - and the employer may feel that what an ANA can offer in terms of nursing support is what is required at this time.

The other RVN? Well, if he wants to employ another FT RVN, they may have to do that extra Saturday to make the hours up to standard?

See if you can arrange a chat, so at least you are clear and have tried your best to resolve it.

Hope that helps,

Jill
