our medication is dispensed according to the label printed by the vs either by myself (vn) or either of the two VNAs or another vet. if off label paperwork is needed it is also prepared at the time of dispense and the client's signature is obtained after the off label has been explained fully and before medication is handed over.

clients requesting a repeat script are entered in the day book with weight of animal, date last seen, medication requested, quantity and doseage and only when signed off by a vs is the medication dispensed. We do very occ ask a vs for ok whilst the owner is on the phone but this is the exception rather than the norm as we usually request 24hrs notice to repeat a script.

minimum and maximum temperatures are recorded in both the fridge and the dispensary itself on a daily basis

We have the vet who prescribes the medication and a sqp or rvn who dispenses it to the client. each prescription is checked twice and initialed to make sure its correct. The VMD website has the rules and regs regarding prescribing and dispensing meds.

I work at a busy practice we have student vet care assistants that run the dispensary and rarely nurses do this shift but the staff putting up the meds have in house training and all medication is double signed so two members of staff have checked that everything is put up correctly to avoid mistakes happening
