Just wondering which type of min and max thermometers everyone is using for recording the temperatures in dispensary? We have had various types including the mercury ones from NVS but they just break easily. I would be interested to know where

RE: Min & Max Thermometers

We purchase our electronic ones from company called ETI they cost about £10 each and have an alarm on them as well .

If you put the probe in to a injection vial which has water in this avoids the fluctuations when the door is opened .

Seem to work in our fridges

I think it says fridge/freezer because you can use it in either maybe?

RE: Min & Max Thermometers

Thanks Ems, this says its for fridge/freezer so this will still be OK to work in the dispensary/prep room?

RE: Min & Max Thermometers

I don't know where it came from but it's very similar to this one:

Sal the ones we currently use are from NVS - they aren't mercury but similar design. 2 blue lines representing maximum and minimum. There is moveable black lines above this that change according to the temperature which is read at the bottom on the black line. Using a magnet these black lines are then reset after recording the temperatures. But we are finding often the black line actually goes into the blue line (which it shouldn't do) and gets stuck!!! As they are only in glass they are easily broken if dropped or someone places something on top of them without realising (vets!!). Our fridge has a built in thermometer so that's fine. Just struggling to find ones that will work without constantly breaking for our dispensary and prep room

RE: Min & Max Thermometers

We had great digital ones but I'm not sure where they came from :-/ I liked them because they were easy to read!

RE: Min & Max Thermometers

[quote user="Kerry Brennand DipAVN (Surgical) RVN A1 MBVNA"]We have had various types including the mercury ones from NVS but they just break easily.
we use thermo data loggers, which you set an alarm for max-min setting and can therefore easily glance at the reader if there's no alarm all is ok, we use them in the rooms where drugs are stored e.g cons room disp and prep room and separate ones in the fridges. they are checked daily and any that have alarmed are doubled checked on the computer for the cause of the alarm, and re-set weekly. We had a VMD inspection last Jan and passed with outstanding remarks so these are ok for that purpose. Plus if you have petplan points, you can use them to purchase the loggers at no cost to the practice. Think we got ours from JAK. So easy to set up and use we have the student nurses check them.
