Also an example of how they want the workings out laid out with units etc; This is

RE: city and guilds OSCE's - dispensing medication

Hi yep you got it! So if your answer is say 20mg and it is to have it bid you divide and thus it is one 10mg tablet twice daily. They generally have two different strengths of tablet to choose from and it should be common sense which one to choose based on your calculation :)

RE: city and guilds OSCE's - dispensing medication

So do we work it out as Bodyweight x dose rate / concentration and then divide that by how many times it's being given a day? Then multiply the original answer by how many days the course is for?

Also in the osces - are you given one strength of tablets or multiple?

Many thanks!

RE: city and guilds OSCE's - dispensing medication

Hi, this osce is quite straight forward if you can do your drugs calculations. You need to select the correct medication and strength of medication. Your answer will generally follow the calculation e.g mg per kg. Your calculation is written separately and then you are given a choice of labels which you need to choose the correct one (one which has all legally required info on) and then you add the number of tablets to give and how many times a day. Don't forget to wear gloves and get the vet (examiner) to authorise the prescription. hope this helps
