We have three shifts at work, a 8am to 4:30pm, 11.30am - 8pm, and night duty 4pm - 8am.

We have 8 'rota' nurses who cover these shifts, we normally have five 8-4.30, two 11.30-8 and then one night duty.

Both nurses are currently at college so there is one day a week one has to do the whole day. Then Saturdays is 9-1 and we work every other. I write our rotas and I tend to figure out the month and if there are any hours up and owed I'll give some early finishes on the Fridays before weekends off etc. Generally emergencies to stay late or earlier are paid as overtime.

It's much easier to figure out with less staff but obviously if there are more then the shifts can be a bit shorter. We work 40 hours a week.
