I have been a nurse for 20 years and nursing as a locum for 7 years now in and around the South East. If anyone needs help with tactics or how to set up a limited company without getting ripped off let me know. Lilmcharris@hotmail.com I'm more than happy to help as I lost a lot of money in the early days.

I work for Purosearch and specialise in the recruitment of locum and perm veterinary nurses. I would say that the average rate in the South is probably between £13 and £14 per hour.

Regarding bank hols it is difficult as some practices would just expect a locum to work these but you are perfectly within your right to charge a bit more - I would say £15-£16 per hour.

OOH is usually dependant on what the practice already pays their employees so is negotiable.

Hope that helps! x

RE: Locum Nurse Rates in South West???

hi callie,

when I locummed 2 years ago in dorset, somerset and wilts I did it through a few different agencies so the amounts varied slightly, but it was between £11-13 an hour, this included weekends. didn't do any bank hols or nights so can't answer that i'm afraid.
