I have been working as a locum for 2+ years now and the rate heavily depends on how greedy your agency is and how much they think they can pull the wool over. If anyone needs help with tactics or how to set up a limited company without getting ripped off let me know. Hi,

I work for Purosearch and specialise in the recruitment of locum and perm veterinary nurses. I would say that the average rate in the South is probably between £13 and £14 per hour.

Regarding bank hols it is difficult as some practices would just expect a locum to work these but you are perfectly within your right to charge a bit more - I would say £15-£16 per hour.

OOH is usually dependant on what the practice already pays their employees so is negotiable.

when I locummed 2 years ago in dorset, somerset and wilts I did it through a few different agencies so the amounts varied slightly, but it was between £11-13 an hour, this included weekends. didn't do any bank hols or nights so can't answer that i'm afraid.

I was locuming in that area couple years ago and the hourly rate seemed to be about £11-£13 an hour vets now night shifts about £200 a night
