Its been a while since I've written a proper one and wondered if this was the norm.
I have been asked at interviews what recent CPD I have done so maybe keep a note of any interesting ones for then?

RE: CPD in my cv

+1 to the post immediately above this, and.....

I have been a recruiter and I have to say it depends on the job and the number of applicants. I get a funny feeling if I see a very generic CV which has not been in any way tailored to the vacancy and in my experience the candidates that send a generic one don't impress at interview.

Employers ultimately want to know that you have the experience they need - even in something where a VN qual might be a yardstick, they might still be looking for specific experience (clinical coach, charity, mixed practice etc). They will also like being flattered by the thought that you really want to work for them.

If I am dealing with lots of applicants then I tend to not appreciate lengthy CVs as I am basically trying to get to a shortlist and then I look at my shortlisted ones in more detail pre-interview. But as may be the case in some VN jobs where the number of applicants is low, I give them more time as I am effectively not shortlisting but looking at them all potentially pre-interview.

What I would recommend is matching the CPD to the post, posting the most relevant, and maybe setting up a linkedin profile to which you provide a link which the employer can refer to if they want to see everything you’ve ever done. This also allows you to draw their attention to other things on LinkedIn like endorsements and recommendations which you might not put on the CV. For example I've done a bit of authoring and some conference speaking but I would not normally detail that on a CV other than a brief mention in general, but by pointing someone to LinkedIn I can let them choose to see detailed specifics.

Make it clear on the CV that you've done it this way to keep it brief and concise but you have done a lot more CPD and the details are available if they wish. Make the hyperlink to your profile clear and straightforward.

I would also be mighty impressed if the candidate listed any CPD and then gave a brief summary of how they applied it in practice and what they felt they gained from it.

I would generally not include most CPD - such as webinars/seminars etc, however I would include things that give some sort of certification/accrediation or an actual 'course' which may be a part of your CPD. For example courses in nutrition, hydrotherapy etc as these could help to show what skills/knowledge you have acquired since your initial training and may show a prospective employer your strengths/interests within the field.
