I'll try to keep it short :P

I'm 25 currently studying a degree in history through the open university. History has always been an interest of mine, I have now realised that's just what it is, an interest.

You are very lucky Heather! I have emailed all local practices to see if there are any opportunities for cleaning or reception jobs just to get my foot in the door.

If anyone has any other tips, do let me know!

RE: Help!

Can you look to do the L3 diploma but on day release. You have to be employed in a practice and go to college one day a week. Most people tend to start out this way as an employed kennel assistant/receptionist etc for a while until the practice may send them to college. This was what happened in my case, and I am a paid student (would not be able to do it otherwise! I started at 25 years too) However these placements can be quite rare to find!

I have not heard of many people doing the L3 diploma full time with block placements/degree with block placements that are offered a wage. We have one student doing it this way at the moment who is with us for 3 months, and has been offered travel expenses at least.

Good luck!

RE: Help!

I know exactly how you feel as im in a similar position ( as in I'll need a paid position to train) . There are the odd minimum wage student training jobs advertised where the practice will help with your course fees etc and pay you a wage ( I think that's right, someone correct me if not) They seem to be quite rare though.

Sorry that wasn't much help was it, just wanted to say good luck really :)

RE: Help!

Check with CAW (disclaimer: I work for CAW) about apprenticeships - this means you have to work for a practice but if you qualify (please check with admin team for more info), that might help you as apprenticeships are paid.

If you're an unpaid student, you may qualify for a Learner Loan that will help with your course fees.

Good luck!
