Gonna be cheeky - all good nurses please look at jobs page we have a range of jobs going including head nurses and they are all new positions as we are getting bigger and even better

Agree with editors comments , no appraisal in 6 yrs is crazy, a head nurse definitively deserves all the support and targets to work with. Defo agree with vets trying to do HR comment. having tried to be a head nurse and practice manager and vet over the last 6 months I even more now realise how valued a good head nurse should be.

I hope good nurses please stay in the profession as will there will a be a huge loss without you

i have been going through the same and took the plunge and handed in my notice.

now to decide if i even want to nurse anymore or not.

Agree with all the above, if it has come to the point you are seriously considering handing in your notice and you're going to put your concerns /requests in writing then don't forget to make it clear that unless the support level increases you will regretfully need to seek a position elsewhere where your skills can be better utilised (make sure to put it in a calm way that doesn't make it sound like you're holding them to ransom..)

Good luck. It's sad to think that if you leave someone else will just get this job and face the same problems but sometimes you need to be thinking of yourself and your health /happiness /stress levels. And some practice partnersite only learn when they've gone through a lot of staff in quick succession!!

I think if you have already raised these issues, and with the practice manager/partners in a formal way, and still nothing has changed, then as Arlo has said, you really have no option but to move on.

Trying to perform the head nurse role without any backup or support from higher up the team is pretty much impossible, and will just continue to drag you down.

As a last ditch attempt, if previous correspondence has been verbal, it may be worth trying to put your issues into writing and sending this to the partners/manager.

It may well be that they don't have the time (or maybe inclination) to make things work better, but if that's the case then it's no use to you, so move on! If they do want to improve the situation and keep you, then ensure that you outline a clear plan forward with achievable timeframes in place so that you can monitor progress.

Hi there I gav the same issues as you, been h nurse for a year now, have put lots of new things in to play to tidy n sort old issues they had, things are better but feel I'm alone in this as no support or backup from my bosses, they ask me to sort certain things, bring new things into play which I do, but then they may do the oposite of what they've asked me to do or don't back ME up with the changes, I feel frustrated an sometunes pretty cross with this, am pretty miserable and its reflecting on others now, sometimes feel ' y do I bother' and that imp wasting my time, hav started to lose my enthusiasm for the my job and my faith in where I work, have even thought about coming out of nursin! Iv been a nurse for 10 years and worked hard for where i am,, we had dreadfull problems with our old head nurse and I was determined to do better, but seem to b turning into her!!! We hav a practised metin comming up next week was waiting to see wats roughy up in that if anything, then I was planning to hav one last bash at tellin them how I feel!

Nobody has jumped in yet, so I will.

Impossible to know whether the reason you're feeling ignored is because the partners are not very good at HR (a common problem in the profession), don't value you, or are just overworked and taken up with other things.

But if it were me, I'd be doing exactly what you're doing - looking for other opportunities. And if I went for a job interview at another practice, I'd be asking questions with the benefit of experience - i.e. making sure that any new job would provide me with the things I want, such as targets, appraisals, etc.
