Hi all

I have been asked by a local Beaver group to give a little talk on the nursing profession. Explaining what we do along with giving some type of interaction part. This is a whole new world for me, especially with children!

Thank you for the info, got some ideas similar to the above, along with what not to do around a strange dog.

also just contacted Bayer whom are fast-tracking me some materials from their it’s a jungle packs, as I need to do this on Tuesday. ops!!

I believe this is something to do with their community bag! But then again as my partner is the leader its a lot of pressure!!

RE: Veterinary Talk to Beavers (like scouts)

I have done it with a group of brownies in the past and they went on to do one of their badges with me. My advice is to take props ie a stethoscope or two so they can listen to each others hearts, soft toy animals (not in favour of real life ones dont forget the rule never work with animals and kids ). some dressings - anything suitable and free you can scrounge from reps. I have some felt fleas and worms that I made and found that these were very popular and got the message back to parents very effectively via the child the importance of flea and worm tx (but is important not to scare them!) I used to do a little talk and then let them ask me questions (or more likely just tell me stuff about their pets). we covered different pets and how you would look after them and what they thought my job was. Used to leave them with a colouring competion or a word search at the end and winners from that got a prize the next week. Similar set up when doing a school assembly but a lot more children! Feel free to PM if you think it will be useful it varies a bit dependent on age of child
